Dear Mom,

I know I haven't written in a while so I thought I'd try to get some ideas onto parchment ASAP. I promise I haven't forgotten about all of you completely. In fact, since the start of the year, you guys have been on my mind almost constantly - you, Dad, Bee, even Mikky!

I know Dad wanted me to focus on my schooling, so I have good news - I got sorted into Ravenclaw! Those, as you probably already know, are the brainy students at Hogwarts. I've been doing good in all my classes, or so my teachers have told me. I have Transfiguration, potions, History of Magic and Charms, to name a few classes. My Head of House, Professor Flitwick, is the Charms professor. When they say good things come in small packages - no offense to him, of course - they're correct.

Another thing that happened pretty quick after I got to the school was that I made a friend. His name is Scorpius Malfoy. He's the son of Draco Malfoy, and he's really nice. Despite the preconceived notions that all Slytherins are evil A-holes, Scorpius and his parents are not. His mother talks highly of you, which I am glad to see.

On another note, how is everyone? I heard that Max came to visit for his sister's birthday. Bee told me a while back that she was planning on going, too. I hope they didn't fight.

In short, everything here's good. I haven't gotten into trouble (yet - haha). I know I probably could have sent you an e-mail, but I decided to try using the owl post.

Anyway, I should probably get my butt to bed, as it's late and I have to be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for class tomorrow. Love you!

Dear Xavier,

I love when you send me letters through the mail. It gives me and excuse to use Iridessa's type writer. I simply adore this thing, it's so old style and the way that the letters look on the page is beautiful. Also it's very sentimental and I can keep them so when you're older, I can read them and keep them close to me.

Any who, Bee and Max didn't fight at all, in fact they made it 10 times better for his sister. According to Iridessa, it was a good thing they didn't fight because if they had, little Selma would have accidentally turned into her Demonic self too early.

I'm also glad that her birthday party wasn't a sleepover or the poor other children would have to see her Night Terrors. If you're not sure what they are, it's a condition that some younger children have where they will be sitting up straight in the middle of the night and start screaming a very high pitched wail. Their eyes are open wide. It lasts for at the most five minutes. The child cannot be awoken from the Night Terror and they cannot recall it the next day. The parents can do nothing to wake them up or calm them down, if anything it makes it worse. All the child does is sit there in pure terror and screams. Once it is done they fall back down and go back to sleep. When they wake up again, they have no memory of it happening and do not know what they saw.

The poor Robertsons had to explain that she just had a Night Terror to all the neighbors. Only she didn't have just once, she had it multiple times through-out the night. Selma is fine, but Iridessa has told me that her transformation is getting worse. I hope everything will be fine, Selma's such a sweet girl, it's horrible to see something like this happen to her.

Other than that, everything is fine here. I'm very proud of you dear for doing so well in school, tell Mikky I said hello! Your sister misses you as do I and your father. Bee says that if you screw up she's gonna make sure you regret it, but I'm sure it's nothing to be scared about, you know how your sister teases.

Dear Mom,

I love sending you letters, probably just as much as you like receiving them. It’s nice hearing from you guys. By the sounds of it, I might have to convince Hagrid to sneak me into Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley to find a typewriter for you. Don’t get me wrong, I would be glad to, if it made you happy. That’s my purpose in life, don’tcha know? (Ha ha!) I like that you like to keep the letters. That makes me happy, Mom. My apologies if you struggle to read what my dorm mates call my ‘chicken-scratch’. It is true, though; I do have very messy writing.

I’m glad Bee and Max didn’t fight. I heard he put on quite the show for her as well, including – but not limited to – a performance of some of the song s from Wicked. As far as I know concerning night terrors – and yeah, I may or may not have snuck into the Restricted section to find this out – if a demon turns too early, their powers will come full force and they’ll have a higher chance of hurting the ones that are nearest and dearest to them, regardless of whether they are family or not. I can’t remember everything, but I know that much, or at least remember that much.

Also, let Max’s mom know she can keep in touch with me at any time. I usually get a Hogwarts owl to transport my letters because, as you no doubt already know, I don’t have an owl, I have a cat. Last time I was home, Dad ranted at me for not getting an owl and for getting a cat. I just looked at him and said “Three, if not four, of your family members are cats.” And then he looked at me funny. You don’t have to question him on it, and I wouldn’t suggest that, but you can do so if you like.

Back on the topic of Selma, I agree. I hope everything goes smoothly from now on. I hope Max either stays or comes back. She seems to be the calmest when he is near her, and she quite obviously needs someone like that. I can’t imagine how her parents, though adoptive, must feel. Do you see Selma often, or is she too dangerous right now? I’m just curious.

Great to hear things are good, though. Send me a letter if things ever get bad or get to be too much and I will make arrangements for you to stay somewhere close. I know Hagrid’s brother owns a bar, and there’s also the Burrow where the Weasleys live. Or Malfoy Manor. I know a guy who knows a guy, in all instances.

Dear Xavier,

It's amazing to hear you're doing well, and as for trying to get me a type writer, I think Iridessa has already gone on Crag's list and is finding one for me. Apparently it's too hard to find ink for this thing and I'm costing her too much. But it's alright, she's not trying to be offensive and I understand where she's coming from.

For Selma's sake, I hope Max stays as well. Recently Bee has been over there, and I think she said something along the lines of him staying with his family and taking a semester off. She seems to be doing fine right now, except for the few Night Terrors she seems to be having. According to Iridessa, they've gone down incredibly. Now she only has them a few times a week, which is great to hear. Your Aunt Mia is trying her hardest to find information on young born demons who are starting to gain their powers.

So far what she has found, and the Robertsons are aware of this through me and her, is that from age 10-13 a child will experience Night Terrors, which in humans are found between the ages of 3-7. The child will start to have their shoulder blades hurt, this is the process of their wings starting to form, all wings are different depending on the person but they are always in the form of bird like wings and they are 99.999% of the time dark colors (red, blue, black, grey, brown, ect.).

The child will start to become more aggressive, but only when pushed toward this behavior, which I hope does not effect her during school. The child also will begin to have a slightly paler complexion and will start to feel more awake at night than during the day and in fact will want to sleep later in the mornings. This may cause the child to also grow irritable and aggressive. But these things start to take place toward the ages of 12 and 13.

When their 13th birthday hits, the child will then have fully grown wings and their facial features will include types of designs, most having dark smoky like circles around their eyes. The child will now have powers that they will develop and expand on through-out the rest of their long life.

I've told Iridessa that maybe she should have Bee or Mia teach her incase of emergencies, we've already started to get things set up.

Other than that, everything is going fine around here. Your father and I are getting better, we've been going to counseling as you know. Bee says she misses you and she loves you. Tell Mikky we all said hi.

I agree, it is awesome that I am doing so well. Muggle school seems so much harder by comparison now. It’s probably much easier because we don’t have to learn Math and all that. We do have to know how to count, obviously, or else each potion we brew would explode for sure. So I guess Muggle school wasn’t that bad. As for the typewriter ting, I understand. I might get you something in town if I go with Hagrid one day. He’s awesome, Mom! I mean, sure, he’s almost 3 times taller than me, but he’s pretty cool. He likes really dangerous and hard-core creatures, like Acromantulas and the like, but he’s awesome anyway! He told me that a colony of Acromantulas lives in the Forbidden Forest. Good to hear how Mrs. Robertson is doing, though.

As for Max, I’m sure he will stay, even if just for his sister. At least she’s having less night terrors now, that’s good. I can probably help with the research. I can ask Madam Pince (our librarian) if there are any books containing information on demon transformations. Perhaps that would take a bit of the weight off of Aunt Mia. How’s Aunt Kaylee doing? She was your sister as well, right? I’m not sure why I’m suddenly asking about her, I just have a need to know how all the females in my family are doing. I hope Selma-Lynn makes it through this without any aggression

It’s great that she found some stuff. Like I said, the librarian here probably knows where a simple book on Demons is. Knowing how this school works, the book will have wings on the spine or something like that. That’s likely, because the Monster Book of Monsters is furry and has teeth and beady eyes.

Thank you for the information. I will use that in my investigation. Maybe I’ll ask Hagrid what he knows about Demons, on top of literary research. In the meantime, let’s hope she doesn’t become aggressive. I can see her skin paling, though I am sure it would be freaky at first. Will she have to be home-schooled once the nocturnal nature kicks in? I think, personally, that that might be best. At least she has a few years before she gets to that point.

As for getting things set up, what has to be done? I may be far, but I can literally stand in a fireplace and shout a few words and be there in a flash if needed. McGonagall - my apologies, Professor McGonagall - won’t mind. She’s the one who told me that I can leave if ever needed. Also, I am curious what kind of powers she will have.

It’s great that you and Dad are starting to patch things up. Does he still drink?How else is he doing? He sent me a letter a while back – before the ranty one – and said he was facing hard times at work, and that one of his co-workers (Terrence or something?) wanted him dead, or at least threatened him in such a way that insinuated it, in my opinion. Might wanna ask about that if you aren't sure if it's true.

Tell Bee she can send me letters too ^_^ I wanna hear from her. I’ll try to be safe, but you know, this IS Hogwarts (ha ha)

Dad's doing good, he's tried to stop drinking but alcoholism is hard to get over. As for work, he's fine, Remus fixed his problems with work.

That's awesome that youre going to New York, but I will miss seeing you when I come home from Hogwarts. TBH youre the whole reason I even come home. As for the Max thing, I dont know what to tell you. I mean, sure, I have a girlfriend of my own, but youve seen how little we fight. Its all in how you interact with one another. Even with Mikky and I being in different houses, we interact fine. Sure, we can get competitive about some stuff, like rooting for our houses during a Quidditch match but other than that, we're fine. I would say give him a chance. Let him prove himself, maybe see how it goes. The key to a good long distance relationship is communication. Even if you're not there beside each other 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Wait... you're going to New York? But I thought you were staying in Denver. The program there is good, isn't it?... Well, I guess I just won't come home for christmas, then. Youre the whole reason I even come home every chance I get... other than Mom, of course. If you don't want to leave Selma, then stay.

Yeah, sure. Back to Max, seeing as he's more important than your little brother's feelings. Like I said, you don't have to be present to be in a relationship. I apologize for not sending you a letter so soon. With work, it's been absolutely busy. You have no idea how many paintings of Paris, I'm guessing for tribute to those who died, I've had to do recently. It's almost more exhausting than dealing with your drunken father. Bee told me you two were getting into an argument about her leaving to New York. I know you're upset about her leaving, and I am too, but she feels this is the best for her. She wants to explore the world, just as you are. How do you think she feels when you leave for Hogwarts? She feels the same as you are right now, upset that you're not there with her. Just try to embrace it as much as you can, please? She will be here on the holidays, you can see her then.
